I beg to differ, I think you are dead wrong about America being a bully here. America has many times sacrificed its blood and treasure to liberate countries from oppression, and is planning to do so again today. The articles I send are those which I believe convey God's point of view.
America is the elder son nation, and such has been given super power status by God. Why? It is so that it can establish universal justice and peace so that we can herald the Kingdom of God. So, it must eliminate tyrannies one by one, any such tyranny which threatens to wreak terrorist havoc on the world and destabilize the world economy, peace, freedom and security. It is right and just that America is following this course of action, and I do not intend to change my choice of articles. The reason God took down the British empire was that it did not use its super power status to bring universal justice and prosperity to the world. In the aftermath of World War II, America faltered and failed to end communist tyranny when Generals Patton and MacArthur were fired from their posts. They wanted to take over Russia and China right then, and end communism. Because the USA did not do this, and because it failed to adopt the vision of Rev. Sun Myung Moon for world peace, we had 40 years of cold war, 40 more years of communist tyranny, proxy wars, massacres, the gulag, repression of political, economic and religious liberty, before the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, and now America has a chance to do this right and must not falter in this decisive and crucial time in world history.
Every day that the dictator Saddam stays in power, Iraqi civilians die. He has murdered on the order of one and a half million of his own people in his years in power. So, extirpation of the tyrant's power on his people is a blessing for Iraq and for all of its people. The aftermath of the conquest of Iraq by the USA and its allies will be the establishment of representative government and the guarantee of basic freedoms, economic, political and religious freedoms, such as are enjoyed in the civilized world. This occurred in Germany, Japan and Afghanistan and it will happen in Iraq. I expect great development and prosperity to come to Iraq and then to the rest of the Middle East, as a consequence of this conquest.
I will tell you who are interested in oil. It is the French and the Russians who have lucrative contracts with the Iraqi government for oil exploration. The Chinese are selling rocket fuel to Iraq to build up its ballistic missile capability so that it can rain biological and chemical and radiological weapons on its neighbors. The Syrians are delivering embargoed goods to the Iraqis by land. The North Koreans are selling missile technology to anyone who will pay, regardless of the consequences. When Iraq is liberated, the new government is unlikely to honor those contracts with the nations who sided with the brutal dictator, rather than the liberators.
The USA can buy oil any time on the world market, as can anyone else. We do not intend to steal the oil from the Iraqis. Iraqi oil belongs to the Iraqi people and will be used to fund the rebuilding of Iraq into a democratic free nation which provides for its own people.
The Europeans who now complain so loudly against the United States ought to remember that if it had not been for the USA, and Britain, they would be under one tyranny or another, whether fascist or communist, depending on whether Russian Marxist-Leninists, or German Nazis had won in the major conflicts of the 20th century. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for even suggesting such a thing. The French and the Germans and the European left have become the friends of dictators when just a generation ago, they were liberated from the hands of such brutal oppression themselves, and now are ungrateful and critical of their liberators.
The USA has attempted to settle this matter of Iraq peacefully with diplomacy. But when our own "allies" attempt to block diplomatic progress at every turn, arm our enemies and support them ideologically, then we have to use our own discretion and responsibility to defend peace and security for the whole civilized world from such uncivilized tyrants as Saddam Hussein. Yes, a peaceful solution is best, but some bullies can only be defeated by force of arms. Today is such a day.
The example of how not to behave is illustrated by the Treaty of Versailles made between the allied powers and the defeated Germany after World War I. The brutal reparations required of Germany drove it into economic depression, and the hyper-inflation of the Weimar Republic. Then, when the German people called out for a liberator, it was not the USA, but Adolf Hitler, who then committed unprecedented atrocities to create his economic miracle and caused us to have to revisit the German problem once again, with great loss of life, and get it right the second time.
If America uses its power to establish justice and peace in the world, for all parties, then God will bless America, and it will foster future peace. But if America were to steal Iraqi oil, and to humiliate the Iraqi people, as the allies humiliated the Germans after World War I, then of course we can expect more war, and a future Hitlerian Saddam-like dictator to rise up. Or, we can expect future Bin Ladens to rise up to redress their grievances. If we work to create universal justice, then the Saddams and Bin Ladens and Hitlers and Stalins and Arafats will not have a constituency.
The examples of Japan and Germany illustrate to me how the USA is supposed to behave. Even if we have to suppress murderous brutal dictatorships by force, even to the extent of using nuclear weapons as we did in Japan, then this is permissible, so long as we then rebuild the countries into representative democracies which can provide for the liberties that we enjoy in the USA, guaranteed by our constitution and rule of law. We did right in Germany and Japan after World War II with the aid of the Marshall Plan. We did right in Afghanistan, liberating the people from the cruelty and oppression of the Taliban, and opened the way quickly for the traditional assembly, the Loya Jirga, which speaks on behalf of the people, to decide the future of the country.
If the US had been more actively involved in Afghanistan in 1990 after the Soviet withdrawal, perhaps we would not have seen the rise of the Taliban. If Bush Sr. had unseated Saddam in 1991, we would not have this menace today. The omissions of today give rise to the problems and wars of tomorrow. If we do not take out Saddam today, we may have to deal with the results of weapons of mass destruction being used against populous cities in our own countries in the future.
Japan today strongly approves of the current US course of action, along with 30 other allied countries.
To be a religious man does not mean to be a spineless coward. It means to face up to the job that nobody else wants to do and do it because it needs to be done. It means to take responsibility to solve difficult messy problems.
The question in my mind is, do you want to stand with the ungrateful spineless cowards who support brutal dictatorships, or are you willing to stand with the liberators of the oppressed? I know my answer.
